The inaugural platform of Reclaim Evanston from 2016 identified Affordable Housing as one of its primary focuses and specifically identified the enforcement of the City’s Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, making changes to zoning regulations to expand affordable housing and increasing funding for affordable housing as our priorities.

In support of those priorities we conducted canvasses of many Evanston neighborhoods to hear from Evanstonians what additional concerns they had about the affordability of housing.

On October 30, 2017 Evanston City Council held a special meeting focused on Affordable Housing. From that meeting Council formed a sub-committee to develop modifications to the current Inclusionary Housing Ordinance.

In response to Council’s action, Reclaim Evanston created a team to develop and promote a proposal for specific changes to the ordinance that we felt would best serve the community.

Summer 2018 we will be back out in the neighborhoods, working to build support for our proposal and to see that it is adopted by City Council this Fall.
