Kevin Olickal is running for election to the Illinois general assembly as State Representative for the 16th district. Inspired to run against an appointed incumbent for a seat that has been held by an appointed candidate for decades, Kevin holds solid progressive views. He is committed to TPL’s criminal justice reform agenda, including ending money bond and dramatically reducing pretrial incarceration. He seeks to fight for the district’s working class residents and has shown a knack for inspiring engagement from new donors.
The People’s Lobby is excited to support Kevin as he has proven to be an independent and progressive voice. Currently the Executive Director of the Indo-American Democratic Organization, Kevin is dedicated to increasing voter registration and engagement. The 16th district stretches from Chicago’s West Ridge into Skokie and other nearby suburbs. Kevin is someone who has the experience and commitment to serve a diverse group of residents across the expansive footprint of the district. If elected, Kevin will be the first Indian-American elected to the Illinois House of Representatives. His pledge to not accept corporate lobbyist funds stands in stark contrast to the incumbent who is a former lobbyist. TPL is eager to support a first-time candidate who has momentum going into the primary.
