“In Evanston, 42% of residents pay more than 30% of their income towards housing.  Above this 30% guideline established by HUD, people are considered “housing stressed.”

“Their support made a huge difference to my campaign,” Reid said. “We were going to doors every single weekend talking to voters one-on-one. There’s nothing like face-to-face contact with other folks who are passionate about their community and making it a better place.”

“The thing that really concerns us at Reclaim is that consideration of this proposal and all the other proposals before it is taking valuable time away from developing a coherent and comprehensive housing plan for Evanston,” Sharp said. “We’re getting nickel-and-dimed in our time to attend to the broader picture of what we’re doing with affordable housing.”

“Our goal is to have a base of organized people in every ward,” she said. “There’s a real opportunity to build a progressive infrastructure, and that’s how we view the Evanston elections.”
